Funny Faces

One of the things I absolutly love about bulldogs is their funny, comical, quirky personalities. They are so human in how they communicate and interact with us. There’s a bulldog on Instagram named Shrimpy that I follow and he always puts his arm around his owner when they sit together. Ruby tells me when she doesn’t like something with this little scrunched up face that makes me bust out laughing every time. I’ve said this a LOT but bulldogs are the closest thing I’ve ever found to a human child. They are eternal toddlers that will be so stubborn about what they want. They get “butt hurt” over stuff and refuse to look at you!

I once had to leave Harley when I had to rush out of the house and she was so upset with me that she got up on the book shelf and took down the paperback book I was reading and shredded it from the front door to my bedroom. I wasn’t mad when I saw it when I got home. She was sitting in my bedroom with the half devoured book and when I came in the room she turned her head and wouldn’t look at me. She was so hurt that I didn’t take her with me!!! I sat down and pulled her onto my lap and promised her I’d take her with me from now on. I realized from that moment on just how much I could hurt the feeling of a sensitive bulldog. Harley never tore things up but she knew that book was something that would get my attention. It was the exact one I was reading at the time. I learned a lot that day.

Dogs know us. They know what we like. They pay attention to what we do. They watch and they listen. Bulldogs are highly intelligent and pick up on our moods, feelings and gestures. They don’t have long noses that split their vision they see the same way we do. They read our facial expressions. I always felt that I knew exactly what Ruger wanted when he whined at me. It’s as if you have this language that only the two of you can understand. Bulldogs live to be with you. If you want to be the sun, the moon and the stars to a dog, own a bulldog. Mine are always up against my leg, sitting on my foot or have their head resting on me. Tank always wanted to lay on us when we watched TV at night. He had no idea how big and heavy he was. To him he would always be a puppy snuggled in for the duration. Honestly that’s what makes them so endearing. Bulldogs are big teddy bears. They let you know what they are feeling. If you get the “stink eye” you better watch out!!
